Moutushi

Moutushi is a print-maker, painter and photographer based in Kolkata. She pursued her education in Advanced Printmaking from Wimbledon School of Art. The artist combines Photography and Printmaking to address the concurrent societal perceptions of femininity through a vocabulary of dark humor. The artist delves into historical research and documentation to construct a visual language tracing the mutation of feminine identity from Pre to Post Colonial era. Her works are an intrepid celebration of feminine grit, beauty and sensuality that do not conform to prevalent cannons of endorsement, but rather evoke the potential of violence within beauty. The artist combines traditional printmaking with contemporary methods and has spoken about its possibilities at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai. The artist regularly exhibits her work both nationally and internationally.
