Tanya Syed

Born in Glasgow 1967 of Welsh/Indian decent, Tanya Syed is a Swansea based artist working with film, digital, installation and sculpture. She makes single screen and gallery based work and has collaborated with artists of performance, dance, theatre and music. Distributed by the LUX her early films have been screened extensively in the UK and internationally including MOMA New York 2006, Whitechapel Art gallery 2000, A.S.T.A.R.T.I Paris 1998, ICA London,1996 Electric Gallery of Moving Images Vancouver 1995. Two of 'Luminous Objects' series were selected for Sadlers Wells 'Sampled' Jan 2009.

 

Recent works include two collaborations with performance artists Peggy Shaw: a film portrait and For Maynard with Simon Whitehead. She is currently working on Life Works : a film portrait of Port Talbot Steel Works and the surrounding communities.


She studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College London and developed her film making skills at the London Film Makers Co-op in the early 90’s. She is also a Craniosacral therapist, specialising in trauma recovery. Her research into the healing arts informs her work.
